Alternative investments
Even though the stock market is doing poorly right now, and even though most people had their portfolios destroyed recently, there remains a small group of investors who have done well, or at least not lost much money, in recent times. These are the people who used alternative investments. For example, many people are taking the current horribly low property prices as an opportunity akin to a two-for-one sale, rather than a horrible hit to their portfolios. Many people are snapping up these properties, trying to collect as much money as possible when the property prices finally increase. Art, wine, and precious metals also are fairly steady right now. There are even many funds for this sort of thing, that invest in precious art over a long term period in order to collect a gain when this artwork can be sold to museums. Art has always been considered an excellent way to diversity a portfolio as a hedge against a falling stock market. For example, Canadian art has increased fifteen percent a year for the last several years, even during the recession, and gold has increased even better, doubling in the last two years. Alternative investments can be excellent, even if they go against the mainstream.

New Signature Aire Bath Tubs Announced by Signature Hardware.

Signature Hardware has added the Signature Aire line to its wide selection of distinctive bath tubs. Air tubs bring the luxury of a spa experience into the home.

The new Signature Aire tub offers heated air blown through carefully placed massage jets with various speeds and massage settings. You can adjust your settings with the waterproof remote control as you soak. Bath water stays warmer longer thanks to the 300-watt air heating element. Each system has check valves to prevent water from flowing back into the piping or blower so you are assured of clean water each time you run a bath.

Relax your muscles while enjoying the heated air bubble massage. Other benefits of this system are increased blood circulation, an increase in the production of endorphins (natural pain relieving hormones), and relief of sore achy muscles and arthritis pain.

Durable and easy to clean, the Signature Aire tubs can remake any bathroom into a relaxing spa. A range of over 70 styles includes acrylic and resin tubs with the soft lines of a Japanese soaking tub and a modern square air bath. Metal tubs made of copper offer a hand-hammered finish for a rustic look or select a polished nickel finish for a bright shiny look.

Accessorize your new look with teak mats and towel warmers, or choose from a wide selection from the Signature Hardware website.

You can also visit Modern Bathroom for a large selection of bathroom vanities, tubs, bathroom faucets and many other products for your bathroom remodeling needs.

Court issues $40M judgment against Al Parish over commodity futures trading

A judgment against former economist Al Parish, already jailed for more than 24 years for investment fraud, has been obtained by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, requiring him to pay $40 million and barring him from engaging in any commodity activity – ever again. The federal agency for regulating commodity futures stated that Parish “lied to customers and misappropriated millions of dollars in customer funds.” The U.S. District Court issued an order on 2nd February, stating that Parish and Parish Economics have fraudulently solicited about $40 million in investment for a commodity futures pool between 1986 and March 2007. Parish will be subjected to criminal judgment restitution obligation, in connection to an award of restitution and civil monetary penalties, in excess of $40 million. The commission issued in it’s statement that “Parish and Parish Economics misrepresented to pool participants that funds would be invested in commodity futures when, in reality, Parish misappropriated the vast majority of funds for his personal use”. Parish and Parish Economics also failed to provide required pool disclosure documents and provided false futures account statements to pool participants. He was sentenced to prison in June, and pleaded guilty to three counts of investment fraud.

Gold Advances Today
February 10th, 2009 by Yvonne Black in Investing No Comments

Gold advanced today trading between $890.20 to $919.60 per oz amidst continuing worries about the global economy. Current spot price at the time of this writing has the bid at $915.30. Some are speculating the gold could see higher valuations. The U.S Commodities Futures Trading Commision has data showing more long positions than short positions for gold.

gold coinsA rapid rise in gold prices could very well be in the offing for another reason. February is a Comex delivery month. This could be quite significant as many believe that the Comex price of gold is fraudulently fixed and should enough people take deliveries, the Comex Exchange may default on supplying deliveries. Should a default occur, those who are in the know about managed futures hint that the price of gold may skyrocket to new highs.

Another impetus for a rise in gold is the stimulus and bailouts we’ve had so far. With the recently passage of the $838 billion simulus bill, the United States has affirmed its commitment to spend its way out of this economic crisis. The increase in government debt in this unfolding crisis as ballooned to trillions of dollars. Should foreign governments decide to stop buying our debt, we could see a loss of confidence in the US dollar. Gold could be seen as a safe haven under such developments.

Many signs point to a long term rise in gold. Despite all these signs, we may also see a short-term decline in gold prices. The recent rise may have alternative investment management looking to take some profits.

Avoiding Micro-management

The Predicament
Micro ManagingHarrison is the head of corporate communications for his company and is proud of his job, and has received management training from the AMA. His staff includes three graphic designers and four copywriters. Harrison feels that he is so familiar with the work of his staff that he can step in for anyone at a moment’s notice.

Harrison feels he has excellent supervisory skills and personally reviews any revised work to ensure that his instructions are carried out to the letter. Every once in a while, he finds that other changes are needed and instructs the writer to make those revisions and resubmit the new version to him for a “final review.”

While Harrison isn’t a trained graphic artist, he knows what he likes; and he expects his design team to make the changes he asks for – without any arguments. He feels that the work flows better if it is done according to his specifications.

Harrison is adamant that his team consult him before making any decisions. When other co-workers make requests of his staff, (more…)

Alamo Car Rental
November 25th, 2008 by Yvonne Black in Cars No Comments

An Alamo car rental is a smart way to get a car for short term use such as a vacation or driving around during a business trip. Renting a car for a long driving trip is also wise as it saves wear and tear on your own car. In some cases, such as during special rental programs for one way travel, a car rental can be had for only $1 per day. That’s a fantastic deal.

Alamo started way back in 1974 in Florida. Their primary business was for vacation rentals, as no other companies were serving that niche at the time. With so many vacationers coming to Florida for the sun and for Disney, it was a natural fit. Alamo pioneered some of the more common car rental concepts of today. One of these was unlimited mileage rental. Families on vacation don’t want to track miles or to pay extra when they go over a certain amount. Alamo was one of the first rental car companies to recognize this and come up with a solution.

Alamo was also one of the first to rent cars from a large plaza facility. Other car rental companies at the time

Car Auctions
November 24th, 2008 by Yvonne Black in Cars No Comments

Car auctions are great ways to purchase cars at deep discount. Anything from older, junk fixer uppers to great newer cars even to expensive luxury models can be found. Many people purchase cars this way either for themselves or to sell at a profit. But unless you keep some things in mind the auction can turn into a nightmare.

Some of what can go wrong includes buying a bad car. The car won at auction might turn out to be a lemon. Cars sold at such auctions are generally sold according to used car laws which tend to make it an as is sale. Remember the old Sesame Street skit in which a man looks over a car with
